Ms. Schimmel started her career as a high school teacher teaching Biology, AP Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology at Regina high school on the eastside of Detroit.  She taught at Regina for 7 years. In addition to teaching, Ms. Schimmel served as a camp director during the summer months. She absolutely loves working with youth and decided to pursue a masters in counseling when the time came to advance to a masters degree.  Ms. Schimmel earned her MA in counseling from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2010 and started her career in counseling in November of 2010 at Skyline high school in AAPS.  

A passion that Ms. Schimmel brings to Skyline is a focus on mental health supports and the development of the whole child.  Skyline currently offers support groups for grief and loss, survivors of suicide, substance abuse, anger management, depression and anxiety, and restorative justice.  Ms. Schimmel leads the counseling department at Skyline and serves as the district department chair for AAPS.
